Not a great way to start things off, such a slacker here. Amazingly it has to do with the fact that I'm feeling better...finally. Just have to be careful not to laugh too much (not easy to do when the husband is around) or I end up in a coughing fit. I'm feeling so much better that I'm busy catching up on so many things I just haven't taken the time to blog. Yeah. That's the ticket.
I just realized that I haven't blogged since the 9th. Bad blogger. Not that my life is so exciting that I have that much to say, but I'm attempting to change my life in a lot of ways and am trying to hold myself accountable to things that I need to get done.
1/10/11: Today was supposed to be "Make It Monday" and well, it was. I just didn't chronicle any of it. Sister Susan's birthday. Didn't make the deadline to get the thing I'm making for her in the mail, but I'm almost done. Excited because it has come out better than I had expected. Next step: Binding...my arch enemy.
1/11/11: Neat date. Finally took the time to gather up names and info for volunteers to prep for the upcoming Quilt Show. I was asked to chair the entire quilt show for 2011-2012 and gave it some hard thought, but decided that since it would be Julia's senior year and with activities in which she is involved, plus my plans for turning a lot of my own life around this year, I politely declined. Still not sure if the offer was based on what the current chairperson said, that I was bringing some fresh ideas to the committee or if it was out of shear desperation on her part because nobody else seems to want to take on the position. Either way, very flattered to be asked at all considering how new I am to the guild.
1/12/11: Found myself reliving my years at Whittier High today...no, not wrecking havoc with Gaby or crushing on some boy. I made posters for Julia's wrestling tournament:
Wow, can't believe it's been almost 30 years since I sat on the pathway near the Administrative building painting signs for football and basketball games, or making backdrops for Taimos' Hi-Jinx skits. I was a shoe-in for ASB Publicity Chairperson, but was given the bad news by Mrs. Sawyer that I wasn't eligible because I had a "D" in English (of all subjects...lol). Apparently that is one of those things I will never forget (even in the throws of Alzheimer's which I'm sure I'll be getting some day.) Not only was I crestfallen, but moreso I was embarrassed. So many of my friends had assumed I would have that position and there I went and biffed it. (Ha ha...a lot of my friends also assumed I would be a Cardinal Key winner too...lol!) I still did most of the signage for the school my senior year, just didn't get the recognition for it. I do have a funny memory attached to making signs...that of the time when Dave Rice and I broke into the ASB room to "borrow" some paper so I could make signs to help Danny Proctor become the following year's ASB president. We were lucky that the principal was so cool about the whole deal and actually unlocked the front door so we didn't have to use the window again. :o)
As I drove Julia home from her tournament last night she mentioned that she feels as though she's still a little kid and worries about having to live on her own soon. I've always told her that she can live with me as long as long as she needs to. Believe me, hard to imagine my baby not being in my life every day. I told her that I too feel like I'm still a kid and how surprised I am when I look in the mirror and see a 47-year-old looking back. Must be that my junior and senior years in high school were great fun because that's where my brain is stuck a lot, at about 17 years old.
Well enough of that. Must get back to the future. I've got so much to catch up on.
